PICS was devised to detect the presence, nature, and severity of an illness’s impact at school. Its 44 theory-based items are teacher-completed. PICS has five sections, each of which is interpreted in a criterion-referenced manner: Current Skills and Capabilities, Retain Skills and Capabilities, Classroom Performance and Productivity, School Adjustment and Interpersonal Skills as well as Attendance and Time Out of Class. PICS is ideal for: 1.) helping to document Section 504, OHI and TBI in schools, 2.) facilitating routine screening in pediatric clinics, 3.) guiding comprehensive evaluations on campus or in clinics and 4.) monitoring changes in the student’s school functioning. The detailed Manual covers usage (including the creation of site-specific cut-scores and how to use PICS to document Section 504, OHI, and TBI eligibility). Illustrative case examples are provided.
