Harness the power of Bayesian thinking—without the math

When psychologists complete the six-page STEPS Protocol and recurrently estimate the probability of their working hypotheses, they ultimately arrive at the most accurate explanation for each presenting problem. In the process, STEPS helps prevent errors of decision making by requiring evidence (e.g., from history, observation, test scores) for each inference. This means that STEPS is conceptually Bayesian (although it requires no math). Evaluation conclusions are easily reported (orally or in writing) thanks to the convenient and user-friendly arrangement of the STEPS Protocol. Sound diagnostic conclusions, in turn, promote effective intervention planning. The Manual includes detailed guidance on its use, the logic behind empirically supported assessment, and illustrative cases.
